Resilient Nutrition for Ocean Rowing
Over the last few years, we have worked extensively with ocean rowers. This work was first put to the test when we helped Dave Spelman and Max Thorpe with their nutri-tion as they prepared to row the Atlantic in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. We estimated that they’d each be burning over 9,000 calories every 24 hours for much of the race. They therefore needed calorie-dense, nourishing, easy-to- digest, practical, performance-enhancing nutrition that would be stable in even the most inclement conditions.
To meet this need, we developed early prototypes of Long Range Fuel, which Dave and Max relied on as they subse-quently broke the World Record, rowing approximately 3,000 miles in 37 days, 7 hours, and 54 minutes. In the most recent Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, 3 of the top 4 finishers in the overall rankings used large quantities of Long Range Fuel, as part of their nutrition plans providing further evidence Resilient Nutrition products are ideal for this kind of multi day, self supported, endurance challenge.
In the Resilient Nutrition Definitive Guide to Ocean Rowing, we share the strategies, methods and products that you should consider before taking on an ocean rowing challenge.
