BORN OF EXPERIENCE
We are a team of scientists, coaches, and athletes who have taken part in competitions and programmes that test the limits of human performance.
Our company and products were born of extensive human performance research and experimentation, practical experience in the most inhospitable places on earth, and trials with service personnel, athletes, and explorers to find a better way to fuel the human body in the face of adversity.
Not satisfied with using poorly formulated products from existing providers we set about making the ultimate field nutrition solution.
LEVERAGING A DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF THE SCIENCE OF PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL PERFORMANCE, RESILIENCE, FOCUSING PARTICULARLY ON THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS, SLEEP, ACTIVITY AND NUTRITION WE HAVE CREATED A COMPLETE AND VERSATILE SYSTEM TO MEET THE SPECIFIC DEMANDS OF MILITARY OPERATIONS.
LONG RANGE FUEL
The backbone of the system, Long Range Fuel is highly energy and nutrient dense (4.9 to 6.6 calories per gram) dramatically reduces the mass of food personnel need to carry.
Energise: Ideal before and during physically or mentally demanding work, and before extended wakefulness. Supports physical and cognitive function during sleep loss.
Calm: Ideal later after periods of extended effort or when feeling worked up. Helps personnel better cope with stress.
Rebuild: A custom formulation of added protein makes this highly anabolic version a perfect meal replacement.
The nature of work in the military is often characterised by extended deployments, lasting weeks or months, broken into briefer missions of several days separated by shorter rest periods.
Activity is typically persistent low- to moderate-intensity, interspersed with periods of high-intensity activity, often carried out at night.
During sustained operations, there is a premium on maximising calorie intake while minimising mass of food carried. Waste must be kept to a minimum.
This requires highly-palatable, energy-dense foods, that promote general health as well as match the specific needs of the activity.
MIND OVER MATTER
To maintain performance and safety, there is an onus on supporting vigilance and other aspects of cognitive and physical function.
Operating during both daylight and darkness, across a range of taskings and threat levels within kinetic and non-kinetic operations, coupled with the psychological burden of mission, puts a significant burden on the neurological and circadian systems.
In specific taskings such as Surveillance and Reconnaissance small teams need to be self-reliant, may be stationary for long periods, and must work on rotating shifs in austere conditions.
A nutrition strategy tailored to the individual, theatre of operation and mission profile is essential to maximise success.
THERE IS A BETTER WAY
The current rations used by military and emergency service personnel are far from conducive to optimal health and performance. In response, we have developed an alternative rations system.
Our innovative, PhD-designed solution recognises many variables influence what is best for each of us, including dietary preferences, biological sex, body composition, work schedules, and environmental conditions.
But our approach isn't just about operations, our general principles for performance nutrition are critical to maintaining overall health and fitness and are outlined in our ebook The Principles of Resilient Nutrition.
WHAT'S IN THE BAG?
Our innovative delivery system personalises product combinations for each person and scenario, whilst maintaining the ability to provide generic packs.
This is enabled through a range of product formats and formulations that deliver the optimal nutrition package across more dietary preferences, adapted for a wider range of operational environments.
We avoid environmentally problematic ingredients such soy and palm oil, and have significantly reduced the number of items in each pack focusing on reuse, recyclability and repurposing as well minimising the number of waste items and material types used.
As a result we can deliver a 24 hour Operational Ration Pack (ORP) in a package weighing less than 950g.
ONCE WERE SOLDIERS
Members of the team have served or worked directly with the military and security services on a range of programmes covering physical, mental and team performance.
We are committed to the Armed Forces Covenant and support the Armed Forces Community.
We are driven by a common goal to help front line personnel across the military and emergency services feel and perform at their best in face of adversity.
